Las Aizoáceas - The Aizoáceas

Taking advantage today is raining, I stay home a little investigating and seeing pictures on the web. I discovered how great it is this family:
Las Aizoáceas - The Aizoáceas:
They are herbaceous or shrub, ornamental plants, forbs, with whole leaves and opposite, often fleshy or succulent. with growth during the flowering period. Are found from sea level to 3,000 m. altitude. Most members of Aizoáceas are xerophytic, or plants adapted to withstand long periods of drought, so they are well represented in the desert.
Many species also have an abundance of calcium crystals in the epidermis, which forms a crystalline layer of protective against heatstroke.
The flowers are showy and long lasting, hermaphrodite, tetramer or pentamer type, with a calyx of 5 sepals and corolla with many petals. The fruit is a dehiscent capsule called nuts or nut, which is open to be soaked.
Its habitat is mainly in southern Africa but are found in Madagascar, the Horn of Africa, Arabia, Elba Island, Australia, New Zealand.
Many Aizoáceas (Argyroderma, Conophytum, Lithops, Lapidary, Pleiospilos, etc.) Overwinter well if placed in an elevated, well-lit greenhouse. Propagation by cuttings is possible, provided they are taken from the bottom, to avoid the loss of vegetative apex. We must let them dry and then plant them in dry sand until they take root. Planting can be done in autumn or spring. The seeds are fertile until age 8. Plant has to take care of scales.
